  • Cardiology residents and fellows
  • Intensive care and emergency medicine clinicians
  • Cardiac surgeons and physicians involved in advanced heart failure care

About the Masterclass

Advanced heart failure is one of the most complex areas of contemporary cardiovascular medicine, requiring careful assessment, multidisciplinary decision-making and timely consideration of advanced therapies. This clinically focused masterclass will examine the evaluation and management of patients with advanced heart failure, including the transition from conventional medical therapy to advanced treatment strategies. Participants will explore when escalation of care is needed, how patients are assessed for mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation, and how multidisciplinary teams approach complex treatment decisions.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Recognising progression to advanced heart failure
  • Clinical assessment and risk stratification
  • Identifying patients who require escalation of care
  • Referral pathways for advanced heart failure
  • Mechanical circulatory support and principles of LVAD therapy
  • Assessment and patient selection for heart transplantation
  • Multidisciplinary clinical decision-making
  • Complex case discussion

Format

Interactive, case-based clinical masterclass with decision pathways, expert discussion and participant Q&A.

Registration & Participation

Separate registration is required. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will close once all available places have been filled. Conference registration does not automatically reserve a place in a clinical masterclass.

2. Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Masterclass

Building Safer Systems: Practical Principles of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

Bhavin Adhyaru, MD, FACP, SFHM

Bhavin Adhyaru, MD, FACP, SFHM

Associate Professor of Medicine, Emory University; Grady Memorial Hospital

Short Speaker Bio

Bhavin Adhyaru, MD, FACP, SFHM, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University and an attending physician at Grady Memorial Hospital. His work focuses on evidence-based medicine, quality improvement, patient safety and medical informatics. He teaches learners across levels of training and has received multiple institutional, regional and national awards for excellence in medical education.

Who Should Attend?

  • Clinicians
  • Healthcare leaders
  • Faculty and medical educators
  • Quality improvement and patient safety professionals
  • Residents and healthcare professionals involved in improving clinical systems

About the Masterclass

Improving patient outcomes requires more than individual clinical expertise. Safe and reliable care depends on how healthcare systems are designed, monitored and continuously improved. This practical masterclass introduces core concepts of quality improvement and patient safety through real-world healthcare problems and interactive exercises. Participants will move from identifying a problem and understanding its underlying causes to designing an improvement intervention, testing change and evaluating whether the intervention produced meaningful results.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Understanding quality improvement in clinical practice
  • Identifying system-level causes of adverse outcomes
  • Defining measurable improvement aims
  • Root cause and process analysis
  • Designing, testing and evaluating improvement interventions
  • Measuring improvement
  • Building a culture of patient safety
  • Engaging multidisciplinary teams
  • Applying QI principles in everyday clinical practice

Format

Highly interactive masterclass with practical exercises, healthcare scenarios, group problem-solving and discussion.

Registration & Participation

Separate registration is required. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will close once all available places have been filled. Conference registration does not automatically reserve a place in a clinical masterclass.

About the Masterclass

This focused masterclass explores the role of advanced cardiovascular imaging in the assessment of mitral regurgitation, with particular emphasis on Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CMR) and its contribution to contemporary clinical evaluation and decision-making. Through a clinically oriented, case-based approach, participants will examine how imaging findings can be integrated with clinical information to assess disease severity, ventricular response and the broader clinical context of patients with mitral valve disease.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Clinical assessment of mitral regurgitation
  • Role of Cardiac MRI in valvular heart disease
  • Ventricular volumes, function and remodelling
  • Quantification of mitral regurgitation
